Volume Restoration FAQ

When will I see results?

You will be able to see a noticeable difference immediately after your treatment. Bare in mind, that this will include the bulk amount of swelling – which may increase over the next 24 hours as part of your body’s natural inflammatory response. Results are best seen at 3-4 weeks after your treatment.

How long do Volume Restoring treatments last?

Our treatments are designed to fade very slowly and gradually, so for the vast majority of patients, results should last anywhere between 6 and 12 months. This timeframe does vary depending on each patient’s skin and the treatment area.

How long will the appointment take?

We schedule appointments for 45 minutes to one hour, depending on the area being treated. This allows us enough time for a thorough consultation, time for you to ask questions, and the procedure itself.

Will the treatments hurt?

Some discomfort is to be expected during the treatment, but as for whether it will hurt, it depends on everyone’s individual pain threshold. Topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area prior to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible. The products also contain a local anaesthetic which assists in reducing pain throughout the procedure.

Can volume restoring treatments be reversed?

Fortunately, you can completely reverse the results you obtain from these treatments. An enzyme can be administered at the treatment site, effectively dissolving the product used within approximately 24 hours. To fully reverse the treatment, several sessions of dissolving may be required.

Are there any side effects?

The most common side effects of any volume restoring treatment are localised swelling and site tenderness. This is very normal and will subside within 24-48 hours with the site completely settling within 2 weeks. Occasionally, some people will experience bruising. This is more commonly seen in people on anti-coagulant or blood-thinning medications and will typically resolve within 7 days post-treatment. Some clients may experience the rare ‘Tyndall effect’ whereby a blue appearance under the skin is seen post-treatment.

More serious complications, such as infection and tissue necrosis, are exceedingly rare. Infection can occur effect despite the sterile standard precautions taken. Signs of this are redness, tenderness, swelling and pain. If this happens, you must contact us immediately for antibiotic treatment. Necrosis is caused where the product blocks the blood supply to the skin. In exceptional circumstances where a vascular event is suspected. In this case, an emergency protocol will be enacted and followed by consultations with relevant specialists. All details will be advised to you prior to treatment.

Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not have dermal enhancing treatments. Although they are not thought to be dangerous, treatment is best avoided during this time. Patients who have a current infection (such as HSV) will not be treated until resolved to ensure no further complications arise. Any patient with permanent materials may be declined treatment where the safety of the patient may be compromised.

Can I resume normal activities after my treatment?

Absolutely, there is virtually no downtime or recovery period. Application of makeup should be delayed at least 4 hours post-treatment. Minimising significant movement and massaging the treated area is advised as this will manipulate the placement of the product. It is recommended to avoid extreme temperature changes such as sauna use or cryotherapy for the next 24 hours to allow the product to settle. Avoiding excessive exercise and consumption of alcohol is also recommended to assist in the reduction of swelling and bruising. Any laser and facial treatments such as microdermabrasion should be avoided for 10 days post treatment.
