A thread lift is a non-surgical procedure that involves the placement of dissolvable sutures beneath the skin to provide support and structure. The sutures are made from Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA), a biocompatible material that has been used in medical applications for many years. In addition to supporting the skin mechanically, PLLA is considered a bio-stimulatory material, as it can prompt the body to naturally increase collagen and elastin production in the area where the threads are placed.
During a thread lift, sutures are carefully positioned in the subcutaneous layer of the skin in selected areas, such as the cheeks, jawline, or neck. Once in place, the threads are adjusted to create tension, which supports the overlying tissue and provides definition to the treated area. The presence of the threads also stimulates the body’s wound-healing response, encouraging the gradual production of new collagen around the threads over time.
As the months progress, the threads themselves are naturally broken down and absorbed by the body, leaving behind the collagen that has formed during the process. This means that thread lifts are not designed to provide permanent changes but may contribute to a more supported and balanced appearance as part of the natural ageing process.
Thread lifts are sometimes considered by individuals exploring alternatives to surgery or seeking ways to address changes in skin structure and firmness without undergoing invasive procedures. Outcomes can vary depending on individual factors such as skin quality, facial anatomy, and overall health
Thread lift procedures at Aesthetic Allure are performed in-clinic by Dr Alex. The appointment typically lasts around one hour, although the exact duration may vary depending on the number of threads placed. Before beginning, your practitioner will explain the procedure in detail and review the key considerations, including preparation and post-procedure care.
To support comfort throughout the procedure, local anaesthetic injections are used at the entry and exit points where the threads are introduced. In some cases, a bio-stimulator may also be injected along the pathway of the threads via a cannula. Bio-stimulators are substances designed to stimulate the body’s natural processes and are sometimes used in conjunction with thread placement to support the structural integrity of the deeper skin layers.
The threads are then carefully positioned into the targeted areas beneath the skin. Once placed, they are adjusted to create tension and provide support to the overlying tissues. Some clients describe a sensation of tightness or pulling during this stage. After positioning, the entry points are smoothed and secured with small tapes to help maintain stability in the early stages of healing.
Following your appointment, you will be provided with tailored aftercare instructions, including guidance on how to care for the treated areas during the first few days.
Downtime following a thread lift can vary from person to person and may depend on the number of threads placed. It’s common to experience some bruising or swelling, especially around the entry points where the threads are introduced. Applying ice in short intervals can help with this initial response. Our team will provide you with a soft face covering that can be worn for the first few days to help minimise facial movements. While it isn’t essential, some people choose to wear it at night for additional support.
We generally recommend avoiding high-intensity exercise, such as running or heavy lifting, for approximately two weeks after your procedure. This allows time for the threads to settle during the body’s natural healing process. Light walking is usually fine.
Follow-up appointments are available approximately one month after your procedure, allowing our team to review your progress and address any questions you may have.
