Skin needling is the non-invasive natural and safe approach to skin rejuvenation on the market today. Improve your skin from the inside out without the downtime of lasers and chemical peels!
Firstly, what the heck is it?
Micro-skin needling (or collagen induction therapy if we are getting fancy) is a technology that promotes the natural production of collagen and elastin via a wound healing response. The benefits of this treatment are numerous. Clients report a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with repeated treatments, in addition to softer and smoother skin due to accelerating the skin’s renewal and cellular turnover. Skin needling also assists in normalising and rebalancing the skin’s pigmentation process and fading scars caused by stretch marks. People with acneic skin will also see benefits as skin needling reduces breakouts in problematic skin. It is your one-stop skin treatment!
Okay… I’m listening… but how exactly does it work?!
At Aesthetic Allure, we use the Dermapen 4, the leading device on the market today for micro-skin needling. The Dermapen has 16, 33gauge medical-grade needles, which deliver 1,920 (yes, really) micro-channels into the skin every second (yes, every second). Unlike the primitive dermal rollers that only have one depth, Your clinician can change the Dermapen depth depending on what area we are treating and your treatment goals – meaning less pain and more gain! In addition, when the needles puncture the skin, the controlled injury triggers the body’s innate wound healing response to fill these micro-wounds with new collagen and elastin in the dermis to form new capillaries. This process enables the increased absorbance of active ingredients into the deeper layers of the skin – all things that will improve the healthiness and glow of your skin!
Go on….
Skin needling is proven to assist in many common skin conditions! Here are some of the nitty-gritty sciencey details of how
Acneic/Problematic skin –
By stimulating the skin’s regular growth factors, including KGF (keratinocyte growth factor) and EGF (epidermal growth factor), skin needling promotes normalised epidermal function. In addition, the needling action accelerates cellular turnover to extrude embedded congestion and oxygenates bacterial proliferation to reduce infection.
Rosacea –
Skin needling helps regulate and release growth factors in the skin, normalising angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels) and increasing the dermal integrity to reduce the persistent red ‘flushed’ looking skin.
Aging skin –
The stimulation of fibroblasts in the wound healing response increases the skin’s collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production, strengthening our connective tissue. This process helps firm and plump facial contours and releases regulatory growth factors to balance and support the skin’s biological processes.
Scars –
Skin needling assists in the mechanical release and break-down of existing fibrous tissue to promote growth and cell proliferation of regulated tissue via normalised wound healing.
Hyperpigmentation & Melasma –
Skin needling strengthens the cell membranes of our melanocytes or colour-producing cells. This creates excellent resistance to leaking pigment to the surrounding skin and regulates the function between keratinocytes (our predominant skin cells) and melanocytes. It also enhances the infusion of active ingredients, vitamins and minerals into the skin to inhibit pigment transfer.
Okay, I’m sold! When can I see the results?!
All good things take time! Whilst you will notice a difference in your skin texture after one treatment, the benefits of skin needling will take time. Collagen and elastin reproduction and growth typically occur at six weeks post-treatment. Similar to IPL, we recommend a series of treatments to rejuvenate your skin completely. Some people may require more depending on their treatment goals. The treatment will all be discussed during your consultation to ensure you are fully informed about all things skin and the benefits this treatment will have for you!
