Tear Trough Correction

Tear Trough Enhancement

The area known as the tear trough is situated beneath the eyes, starting from the inner corner and extending outwards and downwards towards the cheek. With ageing, this facial zone often loses volume due to the reduction in fat pads, leading to more pronounced shadows under the eyes. This can give the appearance of being older or more fatigued than one actually is.

Factors such as genetics, sleep patterns, and lifestyle choices can also influence the appearance of the tear troughs, leading to a darker and more recessed look. Additionally, some individuals may naturally have more pronounced hollows in this area from birth.

To enhance the appearance of the tear troughs and replenish lost volume, a specialised treatment can be applied. This involves the careful placement of enhancement material just above the orbital bone, followed by strategic integration into the surrounding tissue to restore fullness. The procedure aims to revitalise the under-eye area by mitigating hollow appearances and diminishing the visibility of dark circles through skin volumisation. Given the sensitive nature of the skin around the eyes and the potential for water retention and puffiness, this advanced procedure requires a meticulous approach, especially to avoid the overuse of enhancement material. Additionally, addressing volume loss in the upper cheeks with a complementary treatment can further support the under-eye area, potentially reducing the impact of tear trough depressions. This holistic approach seeks to provide a balanced rejuvenation of the eye region.

What to Expect

After assessing your facial structure and discussing your aesthetic objectives, your clinician will identify and mark the precise areas for enhancement. To perform our Tear Trough corrections, we exclusively utilise cannulas. This approach has several advantages. Firstly, it enables the clinician to precisely deposit thin strands of filler directly into the orbital hollow and extend towards the medial canthus of the eye, ensuring a seamless and targeted enhancement. Secondly, the use of cannulas represents a safer method for you, considering the need to navigate around several vital vessels in this area. Additionally, this technique minimises the risk of bruising from the procedure, making it a preferred choice for both safety and comfort.

Given the delicate area of the treatment, this procedure can take up to half an hour to complete. Slow work is good work. We do not want to risk overfilling this area, as the hydrophilic properties can leave you with puffy eyes! Light massage will occur frequently throughout the procedure to ensure the filler is sitting correctly in the area. It also ensures that good tissue re-perfusion is occurring.

Aftercare Advice

Aftercare advice for your tear trough correction is much like all dermal enhancing treatments. For more information about this, head over to our FAQ page. Your chances of bruising post tear trough correction are high due to the delicate under-eye tissue. To avoid the possibility of bruising, we advise you to avoid alcoholic beverages for the next 24 hours. Alcohol has been known to increase your chances of bruising and prolong swelling. Additionally, avoid massaging the area for the first day as the product remains malleable in this time frame.

You will have an opportunity for a follow-up appointment two weeks after your tear trough correction. It is advisable to attend this, especially if it is your first treatment. This allows your clinician to assess the results of your treatment and address any concerns you may have.
